Are you working in Oxfordshire to increase physical activity levels for the people & places that need it most? If so, please share your actions so that we can celebrate impact, connect with each other, share learnings and provide support.

You could be a volunteer leading health walks, part of a sports club working to become more inclusive, involved in our incredible Move Together and YouMove teams, working in leisure centres or schools, helping children in most need to learn to swim or local residents advocating for the importance of moving more - we want to hear it all!

Launched a wellness hub at the Windrush leisure centre in Witney which offers a range of power assisted machines ideal for older adults or people with long term health conditions. The hub is a social space with a team member available during all sessions and regular coffee mornings.

At Better Leisure Centres we offer YouMove families up to 50% off on a range of activities. More recently we worked with the District Councils in South Oxfordshire and the Vale as well as West Oxfordshire to give a 50% discount on holiday short course swimming lessons and are looking to offer 25% at October half term tennis at Carterton Leisure Centre.

Better Leisure Centres are working with Achieve Oxfordshire to roll out the swim to slim programme by providing a swimming session and weight loss programme combined in one.

Working with the Move Together pathway to provide new opportunities for people with long term health conditions including a new aquatics for health course at Thame Leisure Centre, Tai Chi at Carterton Leisure Centre and seated exercise at the Windrush in Witney and our exercise on referral service Healthwise across all centres.

Tackling social isolation for older adults by offering senior hub sessions which bring together a range of physical activities and a social space with games and free hot drinks. This will tie into the warm spaces initiative over the winter months as well.

We have set up weekly seated movement classes on zoom which have proved to be very well received, and attendees report feeling better mentally and physically having joined. We also ran a movement-based fundraiser which was accessible to all our members, no matter their disability.

We are now more aware of the range of movement based charities around the county, and make referrals to these. MoveTogether have been very supportive and some of our members are really enjoying visiting the Wellness Hub at The Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney. It has allowed us to think more broadly about the options available.

The new partnership between Age UK Oxfordshire and Oxfordshire FA will see us work closely together to grow and develop opportunities for people aged 50+ in football.

My action is to promote and create an easier and simple ability for inclusion of all children to benefit from the physical and mental health opportunitiy that a team based sport Rugby can provide.
We currently already offer a Rugby4all fund to cover membership for low income families, provide 2nd hand kit as a measure to reduce costs to parents.

We have actioned to offer and provide a SEND friendly, familiy session weekly to provide an opportunity to children that is inclusive and adaptable to the variety of abilities aged 4-17 years. The ability to enhance confidence, friendships and fine motor skills amongst other aspects. Removing lonliness (identified as a major factor for children and parents) and providing an enjoyable fun enviroment.

Working together with Sport in Mind to provide sessions for people with mental health conditions in our leisure centres.
